NCSA versus RecruitReach

In the world of college sports recruiting, NCSA is one of the biggest names out there. The IMG owned recruiting company has a very well known brand and follows the IMG blue and white scheme. Each year, NCSA attracts thousands of high school athletes and their families to spend thousands of dollars for recruiting assistance. But if you read the Reddit threads, there’s a deeper story.

NCSA Pros and Cons

NCSA provides athletes with a profile that can be viewed by college coaches in their portal, recruiting consultation, and a messaging portal to connect with coaches. NCSA’s promise is that they’ll get you recruited and they claim to help more than 30,000 athletes a year get recruited, which is a substantial number. The downside to NCSA is the pricetag and the coaches that actually use NCSA. We wrote more about whether coaches use recruiting portals here, but in short it really depends on the school. Division 1 coaches, for the most part, aren’t using recruiting portals. It’s mostly Division 2, 3, or NAIA coaches who are hoping to fill their roster with candidates outside their geography that they wouldn’t otherwise come across.

How much does NCSA cost?

In short, a lot compared to other platforms that are out there. Here’s a recent post from the subreddit track and field discussing NCSA and its perceived return on investment. Pricing varies online, but their varying subscriptions are $500 - $4,000+ dollars.

How is recruitreach any different?

RecruitReach is an affordable platform for less than $100 per year that allows the athlete to remain in complete control of their recruiting process with no portals or forced communication pathways. RecruitReach was founded by a former division 1 athlete who was recruited by dozens of schools around the country. Most athletes don’t need help with exposure. If athletes are willing to put in some time to discover schools and reach out to coaches at programs they’re a fit for, then the recruiting process is attainable for everyone. Rather than focusing on discovery and getting recruited, RecruitReach was built to help athletes and their families have a streamlined recruiting process that they can keep all in one place.
